Marshfield bowling knocked down the pins of success this season.

Junior Troy Liggett has been participating in bowling for 12 years now. He said he has acquired some skill in the sport.

“I’ve been bowling a long time and it’s the only thing I’m good at,” Liggett said.

Liggett was thrown in the bowling world by his great grandmother, who he said  helped him get started.

“My great grandma inspired me to get into bowling, she started me out in it and started my cousin,” Liggett said

According to Liggett he had many goals this bowling season like becoming MVP (most valuable person) for the district. which he did achieve

“My goal for this year is to be MVP this year for the district and I accomplish that,” Liggett said. “To be MVP you have to have the highest average which is just three points a Strike two points a spare 0 for no pin, they average all your throws out”.

Liggett also said bowling is a great way to earn a scholarship for your first year at college but full ride scholarships are being developed as well.

“Bowling is a good way to get scholarships for the beginning portion but if you want to go farther into universities they are starting to set up full ride scholarships and all that if you’re good enough,” Liggett said.

According to Liggett, he is hoping to continue bowling in college.

“I’m looking into going to college for bowling because we have a couple scholarships through North Bend that can get me full ride or part time,” Liggett said.

According to junior Tyler Goble he started his second year of bowling with the goal of improving his skill in the overall sport.

“My goal was to just get better honestly, I’ve felt like I’ve achieved this goal,” Goble said.

Goble said that he enjoys the sport and the support from the coaches.

“Bowling is actually a lot of fun and it’s pretty easy and we have coaches there that teach you how to bowl,” Goble said

According to Goble, the teammates are supportive as well and try to help everyone keep a positive mindset.

“Sometimes a lot of people get down on themselves when they don’t do good so it’s really up to the team to cheer each other up and make people happy cause it really affects the games if you’re not happy,” Goble said.

Liggett said it is easy to join the bowling team.

“Go in there, talk to someone at the counter and tell them you want to start and try to get a coach,” Liggett said.

According to Goble he wants to expand the bowling team and hopefully have a JV team next year.

“I hope there are more people next year, we are gonna lose one guy from our team so we probably need more people and this year there wasn’t enough for a JV team so that’s also an option,” Gobel said.
