The boys cross country team raced to a second consecutive Midwestern League title last led by district champion Zach Hammond.
Hammond, a senior, was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 16:21. Senior Sergio Marroquin finished second with a time of 17:01, followed closely by junior Connor Devereux at 17:02. Freshman Dakota Pittulo finished sixth at 17:13. All four Pirates were recognized as first team all-league selections.

The Pirate boys will travel to the state championships this Saturday at Lane Community College and hope to compete well at state.
“We want to finish in the top five [at state]. If everyone matches off and runs what they can, we can finish in the top five,” Marroquin said.
The girls team finished one point out of second place and the opportunity to advance to the state championship meet with the boys team.
Freshman Katelyn Rossback was the top Pirate finisher, crossing the line in seventh place with a time of 20:05 and earning first team all-league honors. Sophomore Shaylen Crook finished 14th at 20:55.
Other Pirate runners included freshman Lauren Tripp, sophomores Lindsay Devereux and Danica Stys, junior Jasmine Meline and senior Natasha Hill.
The Pirates are coached by Doug Landrum.
