Softball falls to Mazama, ends season
The softball team lost their first round playoff game to the Mazama Vikings 3-7. It ended a season in which the Pirates went 21-7 (14-1), and won the Far West League. The game was tied at 2-2 until the fourth inning when Mazama was able to push across 5 runs and extend their lead to 7-2. Marshfield got a run from Carli Clarkson, but in the end fell just short.
According to junior first basemen Carli Clarkson, it was the first time ever Marshfield’s softball team has won a league championship.
“This was a huge accomplishment,” Clarkson said. “I couldn’t have asked to play with a better group of girls.”
Although Clarkson was disappointed with the way that the season ended, she said that it was a season to remember. She also noted that even through the hard times, the team stuck together and always had each other’s back.
“It was a great season,” Clarkson said. “We made history, we have nothing to hang our heads over.”
