Is fall overrated? People on TikTok hype it up with the beginning of football games, pumpkin fall drinks, fall outfits, planning spooky Halloween outfits with friends, or going to the pumpkin patch, and much more. Some people think it’s overrated due to it being cold, rainy and dreary again after having a long, hot summer.
“Fall is a little overrated,” said Marshfield High School sophomore Remee Duncan. “A lot of people are obsessed with fall. They make it a big deal; I’m mostly a summer girl.”
Others find it comforting having cold, dark weather.
“What makes fall better for me is when it gets darker,” said sophomore Trey England.
People like England get happy when they get to stay at home, cozy under a blanket, with a warm drink in hand, watching their favorite movie or series.
“No I love fall,” said MHS history teacher Amanda Johnson. “Too much rain, but we need it. It’s not hot, so I don’t get burnt and it’s cozy in the house because it’s rainy outside.”
One of the popular things people love about fall are the fall drinks. Pumpkin spice drinks are very popular during the season.
“My go-to fall drink is a hot caramel brave from Dutch Bros.,” said Johnson.
During this season there is a bigger variety of not only drinks, but snacks, and everything in between. This is also why people feel that retailers over-hype the season. Lattes, coffee, candles, soap, costumes, and even fall season Pringles, pecan pie, cinnamon, and salted caramel.
Fall also brings family and friends together, with activities such as going to the pumpkin patch, fall festivals, jumping in leaf piles, baking pies or watching scary movies. This is probably one of the only things that everyone agrees is fun about fall. Many Coos County residents go to the Mahaffy Ranch pumpkin patch for a hayride, corn maze, or to choose the perfect pumpkin. It’s common to take photos for Christmas cards there every year.
“The positive [of fall] is that it has a lot of colors and a great time for family and friends to hang out,” said England.
Football also begins during this season, with more reasons to get together with family and friends. Attending games and cheering for a team is a culture within itself.
As soon as it gets closer to Halloween, other fall decor and holiday decorations get displayed in stores. Then the fuzzy blankets come out alongside Christmas displays and gift ideas. Whether you call it fall or autumn, the falling of the leaves is not all about an ending of summer–it’s the start of the soothing mellow seasons with a calm mist and the smell of pumpkins, the beginning of the winter holidays everybody loves.
