Marshfield High School now has a voice in the college football landscape. Marshfield released their first college football rankings Nov. 4, made up of students who have a love of the game. Corey Shaffer, a junior, enjoys participating in the rankings.
“It makes me feel more involved, and is something I look forward to all week,” Shaffer said.
Kevin Guthrie, a math teacher, spearheaded the effort out of curiosity. His allegiance for Ohio State and college football led him to creating the Marshfield rankings.
“I think it’s really interesting to see what the students choose,” Guthrie said. “As much as we complain about the Playoff Committee rankings, our rankings are pretty similar.”
While, the Marshfield rankings may not have as much weight as the Playoff Committee’s rankings, according to Shaffer the rankings will still spark debate and inevitably controversy.
“Some people’s rankings are just foolish,” Shaffer said. “I can’t stand them.”
