The Madrala Players first production of the year opened in front of a full house Thursday night.
They performed Alan Haehnel’s play “Beyond Tolerance,” based at the school U. Burnem, where political correctness and tolerance are taken to the extremes.
This is also the first production under director Kelly Haut, who took the helm of the theater program when she was hired as and English and drama teacher in August. She is pleased with her students’ first performance.
“I’m so proud,” Haut said. “They did wonderful. I can’t ask for any more.”
Seniors Connor Bryant and Caitlin Mansfield star in the play, and a large supporting cast is also featured. The majority of the cast members are students or teachers at U. Burnem, and wear masks to emphasize the theme of the production. The stage is decorated with feathers to illustrate that U. Burnem was once a poultry processing plant.
Remaining performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday in the Drama Lab on campus. Admission is $5 for students and $7 for adults and can be purchased at the door.
