After a season of hard work, the girls track team participated in the state meet at the historic Hayward field.
The first event the for the girls was the 100 meter dash prelims where Madelyn Metzler won her heat, giving her the second fastest seed time for finals. Metzler later had prelims in the 200 with teammate Brittany Cook. Cook was just short of making finals in the 200, where Metzler had the fastest time in prelims.
Among other first-day competitors was junior McKenzie Allison who competed in the javelin. Allison threw 125 feet and nine inches giving the team their first eight points. Senior Savannah Thurman placed 12th in this event throwing 97 feet and 11 inches.
Senior Adryanna Chavez and Junior Isabel Groth competed in the 100 meter high hurdle races. Groth advanced to Finals while Chavez did not. Later that day Groth also qualified for finals in the 300 meter hurdle race.
Groth ended the first day at the long jump pit. She clinched the long jump state title on her very last jump which was 17 feet and 2 and a half inches. This allowed the Pirates to end the day with 18 points, leading the meet after the first day.
To start the second day off, freshman Jamie Anderson vaulted nine feet and three inches, putting her in a three-way tie for ninth place. Not long after Thurman threw a lifetime best of 34 feet and six and a half inches to push her to a ninth place finish.
The next event was the four by 100 meter relay. The relay had the seventh seed time putting them in lane one based off of district times. Freshman Hannah Beaulieu started the relay for the team and then handed it off to Cook, who put the Pirates right in the mix with the other teams. Cook handed off to Chavez who put the pirates neck and neck with Astoria at the exchange to Madelyn Metzler, who immediately put the Pirates in the lead and led them the top of the podium. This win gave the Pirates a total of 28 points.
The next event for the Pirates was Metzler who ran a blistering time of 12.12 in the 100 meter dash breaking her own school record which also added 8 points to the team score.
Next up was Groth in the high hurdles where she placed third adding another six points to the team score. Not long after Metzler ran the 200 meter dash where she ran a time of 25.54 for placing her fourth and adding 5 more points to the total score.
The last field event for the pirates was the triple-jump where Chavez jumped 35 feet and six and a quarter inches to place her fifth and give the team four more points.
The final event of the day was the 4 x 400 meter relay. Junior Hailee Woolsey was the lead leg for the Pirates and put the Pirates to an early second. Once Metzler received the baton the Pirates quickly gained the lead. Next up was Beaulieu who maintained the lead for the Pirates. Cook was the anchor leg for the Pirates. Cook did her best to hold off the anchor from Siuslaw, but was inched out putting the pirates in second place during the first heat. Although they were in the first heat the Pirates had a time that pushed them to a seventh place finish, giving the team two more points.
The team finished with a total of 55 point, putting them in third place behind Newport, who finished second, and Astoria who finished first.
