After the recent historical landing on Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko by the European Space Agency, scientists around the world rejoiced over this almost impossible feat. However, some looked aside the fact and focused on what head scientist Dr. Matt Taylor was wearing.
Clad in a shirt depicting women half-dressed and holding weapons, Taylor was chastised immediately following an interview. Many feminists condemned Taylor over Twitter, some going as far as calling him ‘sexist.’ Taylor recently apologized for the shirt, stating at a press conference, “The shirt I wore this week — I made a big mistake and I offended many people. And I’m very sorry about this.”
We should instead focus on the achievement accomplished by Taylor and his team, and not what he wore. It is not every day the human race lands a spacecraft on a comet moving at high-speed, and for people to be more distraught over a t-shirt is unsettling.
