Marshfield Donates Thanksgiving Baskets

DSC_0144
Last Thursday, November 28, was Thanksgiving, a day we dedicate to appreciating all of the many things we have in life. This day is not only a time to be thankful, though. It is also an opportunity to assist less fortunate families in their ability to celebrate the cherished holiday.

For many years, Marshfield High School (MHS) clubs and programs have worked in sync with Marshfield staff, students and the Coos Bay community to provide Thanksgiving baskets to families who wouldn’t have a meal otherwise. MHS groups such as Student Council, Mr. MHS, Key Club, National Honors Society and Z Club have joined in the effort.

The baskets consist of anything from a traditional turkey and cranberry sauce to playing cards and board games.

When MHS began with the basket project, roughly 15 baskets were being distributed throughout the community. Now the number has risen to nearly 40 being given out. Student Council advisor, Jennifer Bunnell, the community and combined student support have made this ongoing tradition possible.

“It’s been a long-standing tradition that Student Council do this for many years,” Bunnell said. “People have just added to the project.”
