Volleyball team digs another win

The Pirate volleyball team battled to keep on track for their goal of reaching the state volleyball tournament with their league victory over Willamette on Tuesday night. The Pirates are now 2-0 in the 5A Midwestern League.
The Pirates opened with a strong first game, winning it 25-16. The Wolverines took the second game 25-19, a game senior Peyton Babb considered the team’s least consistent.
“Overall we played well. We had really low points and really high,” Babb said.
Pirates came back to win the next two games straight, 25-19 and 25-12, to secure the match.
According to senior Captain Brea Mosieur, the emphasis after the second game was to play more intelligently.
“We worked on cutting down errors, unforced points we gave them,” Mosieur said.
Although happy with the victory, the Pirates feel the need to work on some points of their game.
“We need to work on our serves and our confidence level,” Mosieur said.
Coach Tammie Montiel agrees that serving has been a team weak point.
“It’s been a nemesis of ours,” Montiel said.
Despite this, Montiel is looking forward to the rest of this season and is satisfied with the leadership on her team.
“I’ve been happy with what we’ve been able to do,” Montiel said. “They’ve set their expectations for practice and their goals for the season.”
