Fans got their first glimpse of spring Pirate athletes on March 15 at Pirate Night. The event provided a venue to introduce all spring sports team members in front of the home crowd in the Pirate Palace. This year’s spring Pirate Night kicked off with introductions of the track team, both boys and girls golf teams, baseball, softball, and the track team.

Athletes, such as Junior Natalie Fleck, are excited to begin competing.

“I’m excited to see everybody improve,” Fleck said. “To grow and just come together as a team.”

With more than just the introductions, the girls’ softball team gave an exhibition of their throwing and catching skills within the gym.

“We did a drill called four corners,” senior varsity softball player Estefania Perez said. “We did get a little nervous doing it.”

The final to team to be presented was the Marshfield track team, with captains Lauren McGowne, a junior, and senior Eddie Rodriguez leading the introductions. They finished up the night by gathering in a big circle and singing the Marshfield Loyalty song.

McGowne believes the track team has great potential.

“We have a lot of good freshmen,” McGowne said. “I’m expecting a lot from everyone, and it’s nice that it’s such a family-like group.”

After all the introductions were made, parents were directed to meet with their children’s prospective coaches for a parent meeting.

Competition has officially kicked off for these spring athletes.
