Attendees of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, in Ashland, have the chance to watch the play Into the Woods, following familiar fairytale characters as they journey through a forest.
The story involves a baker trekking through the woods in order to receive four items that a witch sent him to gather in order to break a curse she put on his family. Throughout the adventure he crosses paths with characters such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Jack, from the well-known folktale Jack and the Beanstalk.
Marshfield choir and drama teacher Allison Bassett recently took students to the play. According to Bassett, the performance benefitted performing arts students.
“It was a great educational experience because students got to see professional theatre,” Bassett said. “There aren’t many opportunities here to see professional theatre.”
Bassett took 14 students to the play and said she hopes to bring students from other classes on future trips.
“I’d like to open it up for anybody that wants to go,” Bassett said.
The play will be performed at the Allen Elizabethan Theatre until Oct. 11th.
