Last Tuesday, Marshfield boys varsity soccer played their sixth Far West League game.
Marshfield fell to the visiting Brookings-Harbor Bruins with a final score of 4-0. Head soccer coach Drew Jones said he is pleased with how his team performed.
“We had at least 40 minutes where we played, even with the best team in our league,” Jones said. “We had a 13-man roster and given everything that happened, we definitely played as well as we could.”
This is an improvement over how Marshfield played against Brookings-Harbor earlier this season in their 7-1 loss to the Bruins.
“We played 100 times better than we did earlier this season,” Jones said. “Part of it is due to our new goalie Richard Godden. He gives us a presence we didn’t have before.”
Godden is a senior member of the soccer team who joined halfway through the season. He switched to soccer after playing football for four weeks. He had 16 saves for the Pirates in their loss to Brookings-Harbor.
“I played pretty well,” Godden said. “I could’ve been more aggressive.”
Marshfield has four league games remaining this season against Coquille/Myrtle Point, North Bend, South Umpqua/Riddle and Douglas.
The Pirates are looking to finish their season strong.
“We’re ready, we’ve been improving every game and it’s been a lot of fun,” Godden said. “We need to keep getting better every day.”
