The Marshfield Pirates volleyball team beat the Siuslaw Vikings 25-14, 25-23, 25-13 to improve to 7-0 in league play. This win gave the Pirates a hold on first place in the league with just one more win needed to clinch the outright title. Freshman Tess Garret thought the game went well besides a lackluster second game.
“I thought we played really well,” Garret said. “The second game was a little sloppy, but besides that it was a great team effort.”
Three freshman play large roles on the team. Still, with all the youth, Garret expects big things this year, and would like to see the team make a deep run in the playoffs.
“I want to make it to state,” Garret said. “I feel like we can build off of what last year’s team accomplished.”
With just three league games left to play here’s what the Far West League standings look like:
- Marshfield 7-0
- Siuslaw 4-3
- South Umpqua 4-3
- North Bend 3-4
- Douglas 3-4
- Brookings-Harbor 0-7
